One of the most intriguing interests in modern science and spirituality is the possible
connection between science and certain religious experiences considered miraculous or
paranormal. Ramtha and his body of teachings represent one of the most extensive
contributions in this field. They help in dispelling the mystery and the superstition
surrounding mysticism and the paranormal with the aid of current scientific knowledge
ranging from particle physics to neuroscience. Ramtha's approach is not a call to faith
but an invitation to reason and to explore the possibilities of human potential, the
capacity of our brain, our genetics, and conscious awareness.
Ramtha emphasizes that his knowledge is the fruit of his own personal experience and wisdom
capable of scientific verification. He lived once as a human being 35,000 years ago in the
long-gone continent of Lemuria. He explains that in that lifetime he addressed the great
questions about human existence and the meaning of life. Through his own observation and
contemplation he discovered in his life a way to transcend the constraints of time and space
and the limitations of the physical body. He realized a way in which to take his body with
him to a level of mind that allowed him to manipulate space and time and yet remain fully
conscious.
The form in which he chose to communicate his message is of great interest and value to the
scientific community. He uses the body of JZ Knight to channel himself directly and express
his thoughts in person. A channel is different from a medium in that the channel does not
serve as an intermediary with the audience. Ramtha's choice to channel his message through
a woman, rather than by using his own physical body, is making the statement that the
true nature of the person is not limited to the physical body or a specific gender. For
this reason, channeling is part of his central message rather than it being a mere
sensationalist phenomenon.
Scientific techniques now exist to study the phenomenon of channeling in order to rule
out the possibility of fraud. Professional scientific studies for this case took place
in 1996 when a panel of twelve scholars - comprised of scientists, specialized physicians,
psychologists, sociologists, and religious experts - studied JZ Knight before, during,
and after channeling Ramtha.
After they conducted their scientific research studies, using the latest technology and
equipment available, they concluded that the readings taken from JZ Knight's autonomic
nervous system responses were so dramatic that they categorically ruled out any possibility
of conscious fakery, schizophrenia, or multiple-personality disorders. They observed that
while JZ Knight is channeling Ramtha, the readings of her brain-wave activity shift to
delta, which is typical in a deep-sleep state where the lower cerebellum, the seat for the
deep subconscious, is in charge of the body. The extraordinary aspect of this phenomenon is
that while JZ Knight is channeling Ramtha, and her brain-wave activity shifts to the lower
cerebellum and the deep-sleep state, her body is moving, walking, and teaching, as if she were
in a normal, wakeful state. The results of this scientific investigation were presented at
the conference, In Search of the Self, February 8-9, 1997, Yelm, Washington, as well as in
an article by Stanley Krippner, Ian Wickramasekera, et al., in The Journal of the American
Society for Psychical Research, Vol. 92, No. 1, from January 1998.
